(For a major mall, Tysons Center has to be one of the most inaccessible major shopping malls in the area. The mall itself has great shopping, but the mega parking garages are difficult to find your way into, and once parked your car is often very far from the stores you are most interested in visiting.) Coastal Flats has good food and great service, even on the rainy miserable night we visited. though the restaurant seemed short staffed for the crowd they had on a Tuesday evening. Ironically, the restaurant accepts reservations only when "we are not on a wait". precisely the time you would most want to have a reservation. In other words, they are happy to accept reservations for those times when you don't rally need them. This is a sour note in an otherwise well managed restaurant operation. Coastal Flats specializes in seafood and steaks, but they have a good array of vegetarian options as well as a gluten free menu. Their version of shrimp and grits is excellent, but the overall seafood menu sometimes wanders off into the land of Red Lobster where breaded and fried prevails and broiled is a concession to consumer requests. Meals are complemented with very small sides, but the restaurant has a good array of sides that can be ordered separately. and this list is a haven for vegetarians who seek more than a bowl full of salad greens. The menu has some great surprises and some deep disappointments, but then never lose sight of the fact that Coastal Flats is located in a mall setting. Meaning the clientele is very diverse in virtually every way one could imagine.
